This three-part session centers accessibility in the workplace, showing how technology choices impact inclusion. Part 1 delivers a 30-minute primer on digital accessibility, using personas and real examples to reveal everyday barriers and practical, human-centered design fixes. Part 2 demonstrates assistive tech (screen readers, voice, captions, magnification) to expose where designs fail or succeed and how small choices affect usability. Part 3’s expert panel shares real-world wins, pitfalls, and tactics to align HR, IT, legal, and procurement, equipping attendees with strategies, and confidence to build an accessible workplace that empowers people rather than checking boxes.

Nunavummi Disabilities Makinnasuaqtiit Society (NDMS) is a respected and well-used disability organization serving all of Nunavut. They provide support and advocacy for people with disabilities and were dismayed to learn their website wasn’t very accessible. It was important to build a site that reflected the community and was accessible as soon as possible.
Collaborating with Easy Surf, we did a thorough test of our custom theme to meet and exceed WCAG 2.2 standards. We used this as the base of the build. NDMS had a great selection of professional photos and a logo we could use as a starting point. We used their brand colours to create bold areas of colour to distinguish separate areas of the site.
