Summary

Supports business recruitment, retention and storefront enhancement in a designated downtown Winnipeg area through capital improvement grants. Accessibility improvements are one eligible expense within a broader program that also funds lighting, signage, windows, entrances, patios, landscaping, interior improvements and professional design services. Projects must combine at least three interventions, and successful applicants must use a professional designer or design consultant. Applications are reviewed quarterly until the limited program funding is fully allocated.

Eligibility

Small and medium-sized, street-facing commercial storefront businesses in the designated downtown Winnipeg program area may apply. Applicants must occupy a ground-floor space with a permitted use under the Downtown Winnipeg Zoning By-Law, have at least three years remaining on the lease or own the premises, obtain property-owner approval, and be in good standing with Manitoba and Winnipeg. Property owners may apply on behalf of an eligible storefront business. Offices, medical and health services, and financial institutions are ineligible. Governments and institutional non-profits are ineligible unless they operate a ground-floor commercial establishment that serves pedestrians.
