Summary
Funds retrofits, repairs, upgrades, or new construction of community buildings to improve environmental sustainability and/or building accessibility. Grants cover up to 100 per cent of project budgets at or below $250,000 and up to 50 per cent of larger budgets, and are capped at up to 20 per cent of the organization’s total operating budget. The 'Improving accessibility' track explicitly funds ramps, lifts, automated doors, accessible washrooms/kitchens/workspaces, wayfinding, wheelchair accommodation, lighting/acoustics for visual/auditory impairments, and accessible recreation equipment. All accessibility projects must meet the minimum requirements of a generally accepted accessibility certification; new builds must also obtain the certification, while retrofits need not. Applications are open November 5 to December 18, 2026.
Eligibility
Registered charities in Canada, including hospitals, cultural institutions, community centres, and other registered charities. NOT eligible: post-secondary institutions, daycares, non-profits that are not registered charities, playgrounds, long-term care facilities, or camps. Organization must own the space or have a lease with at least 5 years remaining and owner permission. Retrofits are funded only for spaces fully accessible to the public that provide non-commercial services, and new construction only for buildings open and fully accessible to the public. All accessibility projects must meet the minimum requirements of a generally accepted accessibility certification; new builds must also obtain the certification, and retrofits need not.
