Summary
Funds participatory research projects built around a need identified by a community organization working with people with disabilities, with the goal of reducing the environmental and social barriers they meet in daily life. Projects must aim to produce concrete changes in people's lives, must fit at least one of four themes (physical environment and mobility, social environment, health and rehabilitation, or attitudes, prejudice and discrimination), and must answer a genuine open question rather than apply an already proven solution, though full implementation is not required. Projects centred only on mental health difficulties or only on prevention are not eligible. Société inclusive matches organizations with research teams and runs free preparation activities, so a first-time applicant does not need to find a partner alone.
Eligibility
The lead community partner must be a Quebec non-profit constituted with and in good standing with the Registraire des entreprises du Québec, with its head office and most of its activities in Quebec, a democratically elected board that is majority Quebec-resident and volunteer, and a mandate to provide direct services to, defend the rights of, or represent people with disabilities. Associations of organizations and non-profit social economy enterprises qualify; private companies, municipalities, CIUSSS and other public bodies do not, though they may join the team. Organizations cannot apply alone: the team must also include two researchers, at least one holding Fonds de recherche du Québec status 1 to 3 or 4a and at least one affiliated with one of Société inclusive's seven partner research centres or networks, plus at least one person living with a disability. An organization may be lead partner on only one application per year.
