Summary
Cost-shared grants for accessibility-related improvements that create welcoming commercial environments persons with disabilities can access for business and employment opportunities. Three categories share a $50,000 yearly cap per applicant: built environment and accessibility certification (up to 80 per cent to $50,000, with design and permit fees up to 15 per cent to $15,000 and audits and certification up to two-thirds to $20,000), accessible communication and assistive devices such as accessible web design, signage, captioning and braille (up to 80 per cent to $25,000), and capacity building (up to 80 per cent to $25,000). Improvements already required by law are not funded. Applicants meet ResourceAbilities staff first; applications are due by the 15th of a month and reviewed within 30 days until the fund is exhausted. The program page currently says funding is unavailable, and no reopening date is published.
Eligibility
Businesses and not-for-profit organizations registered in and operating in Prince Edward Island, open to the public, with at least 2 full-time paid employees and a commitment to an accessible environment that supports hiring people with disabilities. Franchises (unless locally owned), residential rental properties and members-only organizations are not eligible.
